Hii everyone!
How nice that you’re taking a look at this page! My name is Iris, and this year I am the Education Officer for Biomedical Sciences and Health, Ageing and Society on the 113th M.F.L.S. board. I am 21 years old and originally from Santpoort-Zuid (near Haarlem), but I’ve been living in Leiden for almost three years now! I think Leiden is a wonderful city and I absolutely love water sports. So it’s no surprise that I started rowing at Asopos de Vliet—I rowed fairly intensively for two years and discovered Leiden from a whole new perspective. I also feel very much at home in Leiden thanks to the M.F.L.S.; from grabbing a toasted sandwich at HePatho to joining committees—there was always something to do. All these experiences made me feel even more at home, and that is why I now want to dedicate a full year to this amazing study association!
I recently completed the bachelor’s programme in Biomedical Sciences myself, and although it was certainly busy, I found it incredibly interesting and enjoyable. My role on the board fits perfectly with that. After my board year, I plan to start the Master’s in Biomedical Sciences at the LUMC. During my studies, I joined the Year Representation, Trip Committee, and Festivities Committee, and these committees made me truly care for the M.F.L.S. The Year Representation showed me how much fun it is to contribute to education. The Trip Committee and Festivities Committee were fantastic, allowing me to organise fun activities with a great group of people. Outside my studies, you’ll often find me at Asopos, either rowing or having drinks, but I also love meeting up with friends or reading a good book on the couch.
As the Education Officer for Biomedical Sciences and Health, Ageing and Society, I am responsible for these programmes. In this role, I support the Year Representations and take part in many meetings related to these studies. Your opinions as students are essential. I’m in contact with both you and the educational organisations. So please feel free to talk to me if you want to share something, give a compliment, or say anything else about the education. I always enjoy chatting, so come by the boardroom for a cup of coffee and I’ll see you soon!
Lots of love,
Iris Waardijk
